            5.  Make sure you've got the staffing to respond to pre-need requests within 3-5 days before you send out a direct mail piece, cautions Quinn Eagan, president of Preneed Funeral Programs, Metairie, La.  He's seen too many FDs get back a stack of response cards an inch high, only to not find time to respond to them until weeks or months later.  By then, the family's interest has decreased dramatically.
